This 19th-century brass planispheric astrolabe from Iran’s Qajar Dynasty consists of a mater (base plate), an alidade (sighting rule), four interchangeable tympan plates, and a rete (star chart). Crafted using casting and hammering techniques, it is engraved with Arabic inscriptions in Naskh script and adorned with floral and avian motifs. As a significant artifact of classical Islamic astronomy, it embodies the scientific and artistic achievements of its era.
