About

The Ptolemy Museum was established in 2021 as the first professional museum in Greater China with the theme of "astronomy + geography + natural history". We are dedicated to exploring the harmonious unity of humanity, nature, and science, and to promoting cultural exchange between the East and the West. Leveraging Hong Kong's unique international backdrop, we have built a distinctive collection and exhibition system through the three-dimensional perspectives of science, art, and history. Adopting an integrated model of acquisition, research, exhibition, and education, we share with the public both the grand narratives and delightful nuances of humanity's exploration of the cosmos and nature.

Named after "Ptolemy"—we admire the classical spirit of liberal arts that bridges the sciences and humanities, as exemplified by this ancient sages who mastered both the heavens and the earth, exploring human destiny among the stars. We aim to build bridges between nature and civilization, between science and the humanities.

Our collection spans artifacts from the 7th century to the modern era, covering diverse civilizations such as China, Greece, Islam, Egypt, Maya, and India. Through these material cultural heritage items, we construct an epic narrative of humanity's exploration of nature and self-discovery.

Exhibitions and public education programs revolve around our treasured collections, interpreting how different civilizations understood the cosmos. Through dialogues between Eastern and Western scientific traditions, we reveal the commonalities of human wisdom, and through the fusion of science and art, we illuminate the brilliance of humanistic spirit. The Ptolemy Museum has collaborated extensively with institutions such as the Purple Mountain Observatory, CAS, the China Science and Technology Museum, and the Zhejiang Museum of Natural History to curate exhibitions like "Depicting the Cosmos: The Art and Science of Classical Skies Across Civilizations" and "The Man Who Moved the Earth: the 550th Anniversary of Nicolaus Copernicus' Birth", which have garnered widespread acclaim both within and beyond the industry.

We cordially invite the public to visit the Ptolemy Museum, to experience the collision of history and reality, to listen to the dialogue between East and West, and to immerse themselves in the fusion of heart and mind across time and space.
