　The representative artist of the Munich School, Gaisser, vividly depicts a white-haired astronomer by the window, comparing a celestial globe with a star chart while contemplating the structure and motion of the universe. Both the theme and the realist style of the painting highlight the scientific and humanistic spirit widely celebrated in 19th-century Europe. The artist’s signature, “M. Gaisser,” appears in the lower right corner of the painting. The frame is a typical Bavarian style from the same period.
